CARBON CAPTURE
capture, bind and reuse CO₂ in the production cycle
CO₂ capture after biomass combustion
Separating CO₂ directly from the flue gas after biomass combustion is technically much more efficient than capturing it from the ambient air.
While the air contains only around 0.04 vol.% CO₂, the CO₂ concentration in the flue gas from biomass plants is typically around 10–20 vol.% (dry) – i.e., around 300 to 500 times higher. This means that CO₂ can be captured and used with less effort and at a lower cost.
Greenhouse operators can use the captured CO₂ for fertilization, thereby massively increasing their production and the growing season.
When all components are combined, the extraction of thermal energy and CO₂ from biomass is one of the most efficient solutions and a real game changer in the energy transition. Especially for greenhouse operators.
carbon capture - a scalable setup
Our carbon capture system is specifically designed for biomass-fired systems and can capture CO₂ at rates of 500 to 5000 kg/h. You can also connect multiple units parallel to achieve even higher rates.
hortisol solvent for co₂ capture after wood combustion
In addition, we have developed a special solvent called SAVE ENERGY Hortisol, which withstands the demanding conditions following wood combustion. It is biodegradable and easy to use.
With our SAVE ENERGY heat management system, we recover 90% of the energy used for CO₂ capture, making SAVE ENERGY CAPT highly energy-efficient.
flue gas pre-treatment for co₂ capture
After passing through the SAVE ENERGY electrostatic precipitator and flue gas condenser, the pre-conditioned and cooled flue gas enters the CO₂ absorber. Here, the flue gas is washed with the solvent Hortisol, absorbing the CO₂.
co₂ desorption and purification for co₂ capture
The CO₂-rich solvent enters the CO₂ desorber (also called stripper), where the CO₂ is evaporated from the solvent. The CO₂-lean solvent is returned to the absorber in a closed loop.
The CO₂ is dried and purified. The clean, dry and biogenic CO₂ can be used on-site directly as a gas or be further liquefied.
